Master’s Study Programme

mgr-studium

Physical chemistry is fundamental chemical discipline, which combines knowledge from physics and chemistry. Physical chemistry allow understanding of chemical phenomena from microscopic up macroscopic level and thus provides fundamental knowledge to all of chemical branches – e.g. to analytical chemistry, material chemistry and others. Physical chemistry studies chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, quantum chemistry, statistical thermodynamics, electrochemistry, surface chemistry, solid phase chemistry, magnetochemistry and spectroscopy. Recently, biophysical chemistry and material chemistry has emerged as one of the most dynamically developing fields. Biophysical chemistry studies physico-chemical nature of processes, which proceed in nature (e.g. in cell processes recognition, transfer of genetic information, immune response). Valuable information can be also obtained in the field of mutual interaction of biomacromolecules (DNA, RNA and proteins), enzyme catalysis and new drug design. Material chemistry devotes its attention to the study of physico-chemical properties of new materials and nanomaterials. Physical chemistry offers great potential, which is undoubtedly confirmed also by the fact that one of two Nobel prizes awarded to Czech citizen was given to a physical chemist, Jaroslav Heyrovský, and the invention of electrochemical method of polarography.

Master’s degree

Department of physical chemistry guarantees two below listed perspective master’s study programmes.

These studies can be followed by a doctor’s study programme guaranteed by the same department. The conditions of enrolment from the bachelor’s study programmes without direct accessibility (e.g. Applied chemistry) to master’s study programmes guaranteed by the Department of physical chemistry, i.e. to Physical chemistry or Material chemistry, Biophysical chemistry, are available upon request from the Study department or from the guarantees of the particular study programme.
